Egyptian Minister for Defense and Military Industry Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has announced his resignation live on TV and plans to stand for president in April. He made the announcement at the end of a session of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces attended by acting President Adli Mansour, RIA Novosti reports.
El-Sisi was promoted to marshal in January this year. He stated that he could not turn away from the majority of Egyptians he said were demanding he become a candidate for president.
