Sergey Glasyev, Russian Presidential Advisor, told Vestnik Kavkaza at the Moscow Economic Forum that the diverse climate and other geographic peculiarities of the North Caucasus gave the region great opportunities to boost production, but only as long as it had high-quality human resources. In his words, the key to economic prosperity in the Caucasus was hidden in education and culture.
He believes that the better education and technologies the Caucasus population gets, the more efficient regional economy of the North Caucasus becomes, starting from tourism business that could give jobs to at least have of the population, and ending with high-tech industry.
Glasyev reminded that the North Caucasus had many places with a good environment suitable for microbiological production, electronic and nano industry.
Constantine Babkin, president of the Novoye Sodruzhestvo Industrial Union, co-chair of the Moscow Economic Forum, added agricultural development to Glazyev’s ideas. He proposed development of everything capable of surviving expensive credits, high taxes and foreign competitors. The co-chair insisted that a proper economic policy could boost agriculture. In his words, business needs additional investments that would form a market with new workforce and demand for products.
