For the last week the main event in the Armenian media has been the decision of the four opposition parties "Dashnaktsutiun", "Armenian National Congress", "Prosperous Armenia" and "Heritage" to jointly vote no-confidence in the current government at the meeting of the National Assembly on April 28. Experts' opinions on this matter were immediately divided: some called to support the opposition initiative, others predicted the imminent disappearance of the Armenian opposition as such.
Political scientists Alexander Markarov and Alexander Iskandaryan, in a talk with VK, said that the opposition initiative will definitely fail. As the director of the Armenian branch of the Institute for the CIS countries Alexander Markarov said, "considering the disposition of political forces after the last parliamentary elections, those four parties together have less votes than the Republican party. Therefore, they consider a vote of no confidence as a kind of ritual, but in practice this kind of ritual service cannot shake the positions of the Cabinet of Ministers."
The head of the Institute of the Caucasus, Alexander Iskanderyan, also said that " the opposition would not manage to push a vote of no confidence in the parliament because it does not have a majority." Nevertheless, according to VK expert Susanna Petrosyan, the actions of the "no-confidence coalition" show that the opposition is getting the political initiative in its hands.
