Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu said at a session with SCO military authorities that the so-called Arab Spring scenario in Ukraine may undermine the country, RIA Novosti reports.
The minister noted that the people at power in Kiev were Neo-Nazis and Russophobes that could become a tragedy for both Ukraine and Europe as a whole. He reminded that nationalists were trying to suppress the Russian-speaking population in the eastern and southern parts of the country.
Shoygu added that 83% of the population had voted at the recent referendum and over 97% of them wanted reunification with Russia. He added that the process was organized according to democratic procedures and the international law. The minister reminded that the UN recognized separation of Kosovo 10 years ago and the refusal to recognize separation of Crimea was an example of double standards.
The Russian minister insists that there can only be a political solution to the situation in Ukraine with account of interests and rights of the population.
