Russian president urges Azerbaijan and Armenia to keep up intensity of contacts

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has urged Azerbaijan and Armenia to
maintain the present intensity of contacts to resolve the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, ITAR-TASS reports.


Speaking at a press-conference after a meeting with Azerbaijani leader
Ilkam Aliyev, he emphasized that talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia,
with Russian assistance, have become regular. Russia is ready to
fulfill its obligations within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.
The Russian president also said that that the Russian base in Giumri,
Armenia, and the prolongation of its presence is not a threat to
Azerbaijan. He noted the importance of peace and stability in the
Caucasus.


Medvedev recently signed agreements prolonging the presence of the
Russian military base in Giumri to 2049.
