The 'Great Silk Road' caravan will begin in Tehran, with the participation of representatives of 10 member-states of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO). The ECO caravan will arrive in the majority of the organisation's member-states, according to the general
director of the department of transport and terminals of the Iranian Transport Ministry, Said Abdullahi, Trend reports with reference to the Iranian information agency MEHR.
Abdullahi added that the aim of organising the caravan was to strengthen solidarity and unity of the ECO member-states by invoking the many thousands of years of history of the Great Silk Road.
According to him, the start of the caravan will be marked by ceremonial events attended by high-ranking Iranian officials.
"The caravan will move from Iran to Pakistan, then on to Turkmenistan before heading to Aghanistan, Tajikistan, Kirghizia and Uzbekistan.
The caravan will then return to Turkmenistan and travel to the customs point of Astara in Azerbaijan by ferry, before its final destination in Istanbul, via Iran," Abdullahi said. The entire journey will take from 20 to 30 days. The caravan will consist of 10 drivers from 10
countries, carrying clothes and tents.
