An attempt on the life of the Minister for Ethnic Policy and Information was undertaken in Makhachala, the Dagestani capital. An explosive device was planted in his car, his driver was killed in the blast, the minister and his bodyguard were injured, ITAR-TASS reports referring to sources in local police.
The case is being investigated.
The predecessor of the minister was killed by terrorists in 2005, and his predecessor passed away in 2003 under similar circumstances.
