The parliament of Ukraine has passed a bill with harsher punishments for separatism. Violent attempts to change the Constitution or take over power in the country will be punished with 15 years in jail and property confiscation, RIA Novosti reports.
Attempts to change the country’s borders will be punished with 9-12 years in prison and property confiscation. Treason will be punished with 14-15 years in jail or life imprisonment and property confiscation. Saboteurs will go to jail for 14-15 years.
People creating obstacles for the Ukrainian Armed Forces will face 5-8 years in jail. If such acts cause death or other grave repercussions, the sentence will be extended to 8-15 years.
Acting president Oleksandr Turchynov is yet to sign the bill.
