Russia supports Ukraine's territorial integrity within the current borders, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says. According to the official, Russia has no plans to annex eastern regions of Ukraine.
The statement was made amid tensions in the Ukrainian cities of Lugansk, Donetsk and Kharkiv. Separatists in these cities demand that their regions join the Russian Federation. The Ukrainian government believes that the unrest was provoked by the Kremlin.
Right before the formal accession of the Crimea to Russia, President Vladimir Putin said that Russia was not going to annex the region.
