Russia cannot cancel the visa regime with Georgia as there are no diplomatic relations between the two countries, Grigory Karasin, the deputy head of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Russia, says.
“The visa issue is traditionally urgent, as in August 2008 Saakshvili broke off diplomatic relations with Russia. The current situation is the following: absence of diplomatic relations means that it is too early to speak about liberalization of the visa regime toward Georgian citizens. However, we extended the categories of people who are granted Russian visas,” RIA Novosti cites him.
The diplomat said that last year Russia issued 25 thousand visas to Georgian citizens.
