Court of Appeal upholds verdict of 'not guilty' in Bacho Akhalay case

The Tbilisi Court of Appeal has upheld the Tbilisi City Court's verdict of 'not guilty' in the Bacho Akhalay case. The former defense minister and seven of his subordinates have been accused of inhumanely treating servicemen.

In spite of the court's decision the former official will remain in jail, as he has been sentenced to five years of imprisonment for abuse of power during the 2006 prison revolt.
