Mine clearing operations will be completed in ten Azerbaijani regions located on the border by 2014, Director General of the Azerbaijani National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) Nazim Ismayilov said, APA reports.
According to the Director General, the Quick Reaction Group of the ANAMA will start operations in the Aghdam region this month. Preparations for the mine clearing operations on the Azerbaijan-Georgia border are underway, particulary in Ceyranchol district.
“The Saloglu project will be completed next April. We would like the third phase of this project to be continued in Ceyranchol, within the framework of Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation. We are discussing it with our partners from NATO,” he said.
Nazim Ismayilov also noted that a 60 million sq m area in Ceyranchol is supposed to be contaminated by mines and unexploded ordnances. “The training ranges of the former Soviet army are located there. After clearance it will be used for agriculture,” he said.
