The European Union supports the efforts of the OSCE Minks Group to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, EU commissioner for EU
enlargement Stefan Fule said while on a visit to the Armenian capital of Yerevan, RIA Novosti reports.
“The EU not only supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group on the resolution of the Karabakh conflict, but is carrying out a concrete
program to build trust in the region, including in Karabakh,” Fule said at a joint news conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard
Nalbandyan.
Fule also stressed the importance for the need to reject force or the threat of the use of force in attempts to resolve the conflict.
“Armenia’s position has not changed,” Nalbandyan said. “We have said many times and the co-chairmen of the OSCE Minsk Group understand that
the main issue in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict is the recognition of the people of Karabakh to self-determination.”
Armenian President Serge Sargsyan recently told German media that the Nagorno-Karabakh problem could be resolved quickly “if Azerbaijan
recognizes the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh.”
“If this important issue is solved, solving the remaining issues will be easier,” Nalbandyan commented.
