U.S. finances democracy, not protests in Ukraine – Nuland

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland said that the U.S. had granted $5 billion since the collapse of the USSR to support democratic developments in Ukraine, Interfax reports.

She denied spending any part of the sum to support protesters. In Nuland’s opinion, Russia was not putting much effort into normalization of the situation in Ukraine. She urged Russia to help the OSCE and condemn separatists.
