Turkey has sent forces to the tomb of Suleyman Shah (1178-1227), grandfather of the founder of the Ottoman Empire Osman I, Trend reports.
The tomb is located 30km from the Turkish-Syrian border on the bank of River Euphrates. According to the 1921 Ankara agreement signed by Turkey and France, the tomb is a sovereign territory of Turkey in Syria. Gaining independence in 1946, Syria confirmed that the land belonged to Turkey. About 30 Turks guard it.
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, an Al Qaeda-related organization, took control over a nearby village. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Turkey will protect its territories in Syria by any means.
