Ukrainian president appoints Security Service chief to command anti-terrorist operation

Oleksandr Turchynov, the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament and acting president, has dismissed Interior Minister Arsen Avakov from commanding the counter-terrorism operation in the eastern part of Ukraine and authorized Security Service Chief Valentine Nalivaychenko to carry out the operation instead.

After consulting Dmitry Yarosh, Nalivaychenko organized training of special battalions of the Right Sector to storm the control posts in the Lugansk and the Donetsk oblasts on May 2, where the military had failed to restore order, RIA Novosti reports.

The Security Service was ordered to restore order in the Lugansk Oblast at all costs by May 3.
