Azerbaijan and Israel to enhance mutual ties

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman paid a two-day visit to Azerbaijan this week. In the framework of his visit to the Caucasian country, Lieberman met with President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov, Deputy Prime Minister Yakub Eyubov, Minister of Defense Zakir Gasanov and other top officials.

The Israeli minister was surprised when he learnt that there are three synagogues in Baku, a Jewish school and that the University of Baku offers a course of Jewish studies.

"The flourishing Jewish community of Azerbaijan is a bridge connecting our two countries," Lieberman said after getting acquainted with the life of the Jewish diaspora in Azerbaijan.
