Karachay-Cherkessian ex-Minister for Education Boris Spiridonov has been sentenced to 8 years of jail for organizing fixed Unified State Exam for two pupils, ITAR-TASS reports.
The Cherkessian City Court ruled that the functionary will also pay a fine of 17 million rubles. He was banned from state posts for three years. Prosecutors demanded 10 years of jail and a fine of 16 million rubles.
Spiridonov’s lawyer Ruslan Kubanov said that the sentence will be appealed.
Spiridonov was caught receiving a bribe of 560,000 rubles from a graduate on July 7. The ex-minister admitted guilt at first, only to insist later that the testimony was forced. The judicial process started on October 9, 2013.
