The former Interior Ministry economic security and anti-corruption department chief, General Denis Sugrobov, was detained on Thursday after failing to turn up for questioning as a witness in a case dealing with the organization of a criminal group and provocation of bribery, a source with knowledge of the situation told Interfax.
"Sugrobov didn't live at the place of his permanent [residence] registration and ignored summonses for questioning as a witness," Interfax quotes the source.
Some of Sugrobov's deputies and other subordinates were earlier detained on suspicion of establishing a criminal group, provoking bribery and abusing power.
Sugrobov was detained on Thursday, and the investigation is seeking a court sanction for his arrest.
