Lugansk Oblast asks UN for recognition

Vasily Nikitin, spokesman of the south-east armies in Ukraine, said that the self-proclaimed “Lugansk People’s Republic” that had held a referendum on separation on May 11 asked the UN to recognize its independence, RIA Novosti reports.

About 75% of the Donetsk Oblast and 81% of the Lugansk Oblast voted at the referendums yesterday. 96.2% of the population in the Lugansk Oblast voted for separation.
