Ahmad Jarba, the president of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, met U.S. President Barack Obama yesterday. Susan Rice, the U.S. National Security advisor, took part in the meeting, RIA Novosti reports.
Jarba thanked Obama for granting the opposition $287 million and humanitarian aid. The U.S. authorities said that they were opposed to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s plan to hold elections.
The conflict in Syria has been ongoing since March 2011. According to the UN, over 140,000 people have died.
