Chairman of the Turkish ruling Justice and Development Party Hussein Celik said that the coal mine in Soma (250km south of Istanbul), where 284 people had died, had been inspected 11 times since 2009, RIA Novosti reports.
Ozgur Ozel, a member of the Republican People’s Party from the Manisa Province, asked the government to inspect the Soma mine a few weeks before the tragedy. The ruling party refused to organize an inspection on April 29.
Ramazan Dogru, director general of the Soma Holding, denied the accusations today and reminded that risks of explosions and fires always existed.
