The new presidential envoy to the North Caucasus Federal District, General Sergey Malikov, is well acquainted with the region, the head of the presidential staff, fomer defense minister Sergey Ivanov says.
"I have not asked the president why he has picked Sergey Alimovich, but I believe the answer is quite obvious. He is well acquainted with the North Caucasus. He has been serving there for a long time and is aware of the situation," Ivanov is quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
