Egypt's ex-President Hosni Mubarak has been sentenced to 3 years of jail. The trial of Hosni Mubarak and his sons Gamal and Alaa started on February 19th 2014. Mubarak was charged with stealing about $18 million granted for reconstruction of presidential palaces. Mubarak denied all the accusations, ITAR-TASS reports.
The ex-president and his sons are also accused of being responsible for the deaths of protesters in January 2011. After an appeal filed in spring 2013, the case was reconsidered. The ousting of the Muslim Brotherhood changed the public attitude towards Mubarak.
Hosni Mubarak spent two years in jail and has been moved to a military hospital. No proof of his responsibility for the deaths of protesters has been found. Witnesses say that Mubarak never ordered any shooting.
