Russian President Vladimir Putin has established the Commemorative Medal of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014.
The Commemorative Medal is established "for the successful holding of the XXII Olympic and XI Paralympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi." The medal, according to the decree, will be awarded to both Russian and foreign citizens and organizations who "contributed significantly to the preparation and conduct of the Games." And "the commemorative medal is granted on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation."
The commemorative medal will have a circular shape with a diameter of 60 mm and be made of "yellow metal." On its obverse, the inscription "sochi.ru" is affixed horizontally against the background of a relief image of mountains, and under it is the year of the Olympics, 2014. Five Olympic rings are depicted near the inscription. At the bottom of the coin is the shadow of the mountains as a background for the repeated inscription "sochi.ru" and the digits 2014, next to which there are three Agitos - a symbol of the Paralympic movement.
The inscriptions "XXII Olympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi " and "XI Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014" are arranged around the circumference of the coin.
On the reverse side is an image of a bowl with a burning Olympic flame . Around the circumference of the coin, in the upper right part is the inscription "From the President of the Russian Federation", and at the bottom left is the image of the Fischt Olympic Stadium.
Putin ordered the Russian government to establish a single executor of the procurement of works related to the production of the medals, their cases and forms of diplomas in addition to the medals.
