The Abkhaz Public Chamber has urged the government and the opposition to return the situation to the constitutional sphere and start direct negotiations, RIA Novosti reports.
The Chamber warned against escalation of the situation and emphasized that the parliament, political parties and public organizations should play an important role in stabilizing it.
The Abkhaz opposition held protests yesterday. It demanded the dissolution of the government and the resignation of the president. Activists took over the Presidential Administration and declared that they were in control of the country. President Alexander Ankvab called the events a coup attempt.
