Russian envoy to UN calls for appointment of new envoy to Syria

Russia's representative at the United Nations Vitaly Churkin has called for the appointment of a new UN envoy to Syria to replace Lakhdar Brahimi, whose term in office ends soon, RIA Novosti reports.

"We are calling on the Secretary General to appoint Brahimi's successor as soon as possible," Churkin is quoted as saying.
