The Israeli parliament is choosing a new president to replace Shimon Peres. The candidates are Reuven Rivlin (speaker of the Knesset), Dalia Itzik (ex-speaker of parliament), Meir Sheetrit (ex-minister for finances, interior and justice), Dalia Dorner (ex-judge of Supreme Court of Israeli), Dan Shekhtman (winner of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry), RIA Novosti reports.
A candidate needs at least 61 out of 120 votes to win in the first round. The same rules apply for the second round. Candidates in the third round need the majority of votes to win.
