Reuven Rivlin elected Israeli president

The Israeli parliament has elected Reuven Rivlin, a member of the ruling Likud Party, as the country's next president, world media report on Tuesday.

Rivlin, a former parliamentary speaker and Cabinet minister, was elected in a secret runoff ballot, over longtime legislator Meir Sheetrit, by 63 to 53.
