According to chief executive of the Kaztransgaz-Tbilisi company, Sanzhar Shokayev, the Kazakh giant is going to sell the company. The deal is expected to be signed in 2015. The aim of the move is to relocate Kazakh assets from Georgia.
The Kaztransgaz-Tbilisi company owns the Georgian capital's gas-delivering system and has been at odds with the Georgian authorities for a long time. The reason is that the company wants to increase tariffs for the local population.
If the tariffs are in fact increased it could lead to an actual social uprising. The people who voted for Georgian Dream wanted lower tariffs, and in such a case they will feel cheated, Vestnik Kavkaza's correspondent in Tbilisi Georgy Kalatozishvili explains.
The Kazakh side has always been disappointed with the situation and finally decided to sell the company.
