Russia and Azerbaijan are satisfied with Lavrov's visit to Baku

Today's visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Azerbaijan was full of fruitful discussions on key issues in the bilateral and international agenda, the Russian foreign minister and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Elmar Mammadyarov said at the press conference at the end of the visit. The parties discussed the legal status of the Caspian Sea, the Azerbaijani-Russian Forum in Gabala and the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement. 

The ministers noted the strategic nature of current relations between Russia and Azerbaijan and said that they need to be further strengthened. 
Sergei Lavrov stressed that Economic Eurasian Union and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are not related to each other and that Russia as a member of the OSCE Minsk Group will continue to facilitate the peaceful resolution of the conflict."
A Milli Majlis deputy, MP Aydin Mirzazade said that in order to avoid tricky situations, Armenia has to declare that its participation in the Eurasian Union will be related only to internationally recognized parts of its territory.
The director of the Research Center of the Institute of International Studies at MGIMO, Andrey Kazantsev, noted that Lavrov's visit to Baku is an attempt to maintain the sphere of Russia's influence on post-Soviet countries. "The U.S. is trying to isolate Russia diplomatically due to its position on the Ukrainian crisis. And Russia, in its turn, is trying to counteract the actions of Americans on establishing a diplomatic blockade," he said.
