Felipe VI accedes to Spanish throne

Spain's Crown Prince Felipe will become King Felipe VI on Thursday morning in a low-key ceremony defined by what it is not. Void of pomp, it won't be attended by his father, King Juan Carlos, or any other European royals.

Felipe was born in 1968. He received military and civil educations (in the sphere of law, economics, and international relations). In 1992 he came sixth place at the Barcelona Olympics in yachting.

The King’s wife is Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, a former TV anchor. They have two daughters.
