The Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov discussed prospects of interaction and the situation in Ukraine during a telephone conversation with his new Ukrainian colleague Pavel Klimkin."Referring to the telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, a telephone conversation between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Lavrov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Klimkin (on June 19, 2014) took place," RIA Novosti quotes a Russian foreign ministry statement."The Russian side expressed hope that in this post Klimkin would promote constructive interaction between the foreign policy departments of Russia and Ukraine. The ministers discussed measures for settling the situation in Ukraine, including in the context of the Geneva statement of April 17.The importance of a speedy de-escalation of the conflict, tge easing of intensity and safety of all citizens of Ukraine and the beginning of extensive national dialogue was noted from the Russian side," the Russian Foreign Ministry notes.
