The Ukrainian authorities have decided to extend the ceasefire which was supposed to end today at 23:00 MSK by 72 hours. This decision was made by President Poroshenko, European diplomatic sources reported.
According to a Ukrainian expert, the director of a company called Slobodchuk and Partners: Politics, PR, Elections, Sergei Slobodchuk, Poroshenko's move was well expected. A peaceful settlement of the conflict will be beneficial for his image. "First, he will be remembered as the man who stopped the war," he said.
However, the expert also stressed that at the moment no one can guarantee that the ceasefire will be fully observed by all parties.
Sergei Slobodchuk also drew attention to the problem of private armies in Ukraine. "Immediately after the publication of the peace plan of Ukrainian President Poroshenko, statements appeared from representatives of private armies, the so-called Dnepr and Azov battalions, in which they stated that they did not recognize the ceasefire," Slobodchuk said.
Due to this situation, Slobodchuk believes, the main task of Kiev is to neutralize third parties.
