The OSCE PA at a session in Baku has accepted Russia’s proposal to form an international working group to resolve the crisis in Ukraine, according to Leonid Slutsky, a member of the Russian delegation, the head of the Russian Duma Committee for the CIS. The Duma proposed the initiative on May 13. Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin reminded about it on June 28, ITAR-TASS reports.
Ukrainian political analyst Alexey Poltorakov believes that the working group may succeed. However, it is an auxiliary tool that cannot resolve a conflict on such a scale by parliamentary methods alone, explains the expert. Poltorakov reminds that such platforms, as has already been seen in the OSCE and the Council of Europe, serve mainly to help release emotions.
The analyst assumes that settling the Ukrainian problem will require higher-level meetings. He notes that Vladimir Putin, Petro Poroshenko and other influential politicians should gather for talks.
