Reconstruction of Armenian nuclear power plant to start in 2017

 

Armenian Energy Minister Erwand Zakharyan said that reconstruction of the Armenian nuclear power plant will start in 2017 to extend its life expectancy until 2026. Construction of a new energy block will start in 2018-2019, News.am reports.The reconstruction process will cost about $300 million. Armenia is searching for investors in Russia and the West.Armenian Prime Minister Ovik Abramyan said in late May 2014 that Russia would soon grant a loan for the reconstruction, as it had been decided at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev. The decision to reconstruct the facility was made on September 13, 2013. Russian President Vladimir Putin said after talks with his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan that Rosatom specialists would provide technical assistance for the project.
