Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama on Independence Day and expressed hope for development of relations, despite differences between the two countries, RIA Novosti reports.
Relations between the U.S. and Russia deteriorated over the Ukrainian crisis. Washington has passed sanctions against certain Russians and companies. Putin emphasized that the two states were still responsible for world stability and security.
