Kazakh Defense Minister Serik Akhmetov said at the CIS Council of Defense Ministers in Astana today that the Council was fundamental for military cooperation and development of partnership, mutual trust and common security. In his words, the partnership is based on national interests.
Russia was represented by Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu. About 20 topics were discussed at the Council: the status of engineer forces in mine-sweeping operations, development of control and evaluation systems for the radioactive, chemical and biological situation, exploitation of communication satellites, safety of flights, air defenses, military education, military sports, staff and financing.
Ministers passed documents for further cooperation in the military-technical, legal and the humanitarian sectors.
