The Tbilisi city court has ordered a two-month arrest for former mayor of the city Gigi Ugulava, Trend reports. The former official is being accused of embezzlement.
Ugulava is a member of the opposition United National Movement founded by former president Mikheil Saakashvili. According to Ugulava, the authorities are deliberately persecuting him in order to damage the party's reputation and decrease its role in the country's politics.
