On July 6th Kazakhstan marks Astana Day. On this day 20 years ago the Kazakh parliament decided to relocate the capital. This decision was finalized by President Nursultan Nazarbayev in 1997.
In 1998 the Kazakh capital officially moved to Astana from Almaty.
A number of festive activities are being held in the city at the moment.
