The leader of Iraqi Kurdistan, Masud Barzani, says the collapse of the Iraqi state is inevitable. "Iraq is going to break up, this is the reality that some prefer not to recognize," he said.
Barzani also said that the Kurdish authorities had warned the Iraqi government about the expansion of radical Islamism in Northern Iraq.
"We have warned the government in Baghdad about the rise of the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant, but Nouri al-Maliki refused to react," he said.
The head of the Middle East Institute, Yevgeny Satanovsky, agrees that Barzani's scepticism is well-based. According to him, the process of dissolution has already started. "Iraq will collapse as a single state with 100 percent probability," the expert said.
