The Israeli Defense Forces have started Operation Protective Edge against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Spokesman of the Israeli Defense Ministry Peter Lerner said that 20 missile had been launched at Israel, 4 of them had been shot down by the Iron Dome system and 16 had fallen in an uninhabited area.
The Defense Forces say that 80 missiles were launched from Gaza on Monday. Over 450 missiles have been launched from the area since the start of the year. The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, a branch of Hamas, took responsibility for the missile attacks on Monday.
Israel declared mobilization of 1,500 reservists of the anti-missile forces. Two brigades of the Israeli army were deployed on the Gaza Strip border.
