Nagorno-Karabakh has been under Armenian occupation for over 20 years. De-occupation of the territory is the only solution to the conflict, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated at the fifth council with diplomats yesterday.
The president emphasized that Nagorno-Karabakh was part of Azerbaijan and the UNSC had passed four resolutions demanding Armenia to leave the territory. He pointed out that there was a legal basis for the situation. Aliyev ruled out formation of another Armenian state and assured that the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan will be restored.
He stated that the problem needed to be fully resolved. Aliyev reminded that Azerbaijan had offered to form an autonomy for Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, based on world and European experience.
According to the president, every year Azerbaijan was progressing towards restoration of territorial integrity and raising its flag over Shusha and Khankendi. He want society to unite its efforts to achieve the top priority goal.
