Belarus to hold presidential elections on December 19th

Belarus presidential elections have been scheduled for December 19th
2010. The decision was made at the 5th session of the Chamber of
Representatives of the National Council of Belarus, Trend reports,
citing BELTA.


108 deputies unanimously voted for the date.


According to the Constitution and the Electoral Code, the Chamber of
Representatives determines the date no later than 5 months ahead of a
presidential term ending. They are held no later than 2 months ahead
of the previous presidential term ending. This means that the
elections could not be held later than February 5th 2011.


The date fixed will allow work to be started on the social-economic
development of the country for the year ahead and the five-year plan.
The beginning of the next year contains an intensive schedule of
secular and religious holidays.
