Mottaki: imposing sanctions on Iran will throw the authority of the Security Council into question

The Foreign Minister of Iran, Manouchehr Mottaki, claimed that imposing new sanctions on Iran is a failed policy of the U.S. and its allies, reports Interfax, citing the Iranian press.

"Imposing new sanctions on Iran is to step again into a tunnel the US has entered before and failed," Mottaki said.

Mottaki described Obama's nuclear doctrine, which provides for a reduction of nuclear weapons in the U.S. defense strategy, as propaganda. In his opinion, "Israel is the main obstacle to nuclear disarmament in Middle East."

Mottaki added that imposing sanctions against Iran for a crime it has never committed will throw the status of the United Nations Security Council into question.

"We hope for a reasonable policy from the UN Security Council. The Security Council must maintain its status by making right decisions", he said.
