German Chancellor Angela Merkel may resign on July 17, her 60th birthday, RIA Novosti reports.
Merkel’s political career is at a peak of popularity in the country. She does not want to repeat the fate of Conrad Adenauer and Helmut Kohl, whose great popularity ended with internal political struggles and failure to win elections respectively.
Merkel claims that she will not resign earlier than the end of her term.
