The Georgian Foreign Ministry has announced that a visa regime will be imposed on Armenians planning to visit Georgia for a long period of time, starting on September 1, 2014. Short-term visitors and tourists will not need visas. The ministry added that similar rules will be applied to some other countries.
The ministry clarified that the decision was made to improve control over migration processes and as part of cooperation with the European Union.
According to the new law on foreigners and apatrides, visas will also be issued at consulates abroad. Georgia issues most visas at border posts.
