The move is going to be made in response to Russia's policy towards Ukraine. The Russian authorities are providing the militants in Eastern Ukraine with arms, US officials stress.
The EU is also going to impose additional sanctions on Russia, RIA Novosti cites a European diplomat in Washington as saying.
The US has already imposed sanctions on several Russian top officials and large companies, including oil-producing giant Rosneft and state-run Vneshekonombank.
