Kazakhstan imposes ban on trips to Kyrgyzstan

Astana has imposed a temporary ban on trips to neighbouring Kyrgyzstan for Kazakh citizens, a spokesperson for the Kazakh security services said, as cited by RIA Novosti.

At least 65 people were killed during protest riots on Wednesday in Kyrgyzstan. The opposition has said the government has stepped down and that President Kurmanbek Bakiyev has left the capital,  Bishkek.
The Kabar news agency later said that he was in the country’s south.

"We have introduced tightened security on Kazakh-Kyrgyz border,” the spokesperson said. “We have brought in some restrictions.”

“In the interest of their own safety, our citizens are not being allowed into Kyrgyzstan,” he added.
