Russia does not want to attack Ukraine – polls

According to the WCIOM polling center, 87% of Russians questioned are aware that Ukrainian shells are landing on Russian territory, 47% of them are well aware, 40% have heard about it. 69% believe that Russia should respond diplomatically. 68% of women, 69% of residents of small cities, 84% of A Fair Russia supporters have a similar opinion, RIA Novosti reports.

A fifth of people want to direct counter-fire at Ukraine. 34% people with a school diploma and 32% of LDPR supporters have a similar opinion. 11% wanted Russian forces to invade Ukraine. 5% say that the government should ignore the shells.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said earlier that Russia may open counter-fire on Ukraine for targeted attacks.
